Activities

Beacon PTO has a two-fold mission:

  • to build community within the school and our families, and
  • to raise funds for projects and activities and programs throughout the school year.

Community Building

Much of our community building happens through a series of regular family events at the school, designed to bring the community together to have fun and build relationships. Additionally, we have one parent volunteer for each classroom or CPR group that helps parents stay connected to school and PTO information. This parent also arrangers for two or more classroom gatherings during the year to help facilitate relationships. The yearly schedule of events is announced each fall.

Fundraising

Beacon PTO is committed to keeping our fundraising activities manageable each year, and so we limit our active fundraising to a few select situations.

Beacon Dash

The main fundraising campaign each year is the Beacon Dash, a direct-ask campaign involving the whole school that culminates in a day outside with activities such as dunking the principal in the dunk tank, obstacle courses and music!

Our goal is to use this campaign to raise the entire PTO budget for the next year. Students and families solicit monetary pledges/donations to contribute to this school-wide effort, and we celebrate our progress with school-wide incentives.

Sales

Each fall, the Middle School students sells Butter Braids to raise money for the 8th grade graduation, school dances and end of school field trip.  Each spring, the 4th and 5th grade students sell flowers from a local greenhouse to raise money for their 5th grade spring trip to Wolf Ridge Environmental Center

PTO Membership Information

We encourage all families at Beacon to become members of Beacon PTO, no matter how many meetings or events you can attend. We welcome parents and grandparents of current students, along with current teachers and staff members. The more voices and perspectives, the better we can serve our school community.

Membership in the PTO is $15 per family per year. Members are given a vote in all PTO business meetings, are able to serve as a committee chair for events and fundraisers, and are also able to serve on the PTO Board of Directors.

To join, fill out a membership form and drop it off in the school office with your $15 cash or check (made out to Beacon PTO).

Did you know that our school generates hundreds of dollars a year through indirect fundraising opportunities? All you have to do is participate! In most cases, these are goods and services you are already using. A few extra seconds to link them to our school makes a huge difference for our students. Beacon Academy indirect fundraising opportunities include:

BoxTopsBox Tops for education. When you use products that have the pink 'box tops' label, simply remove the label, save it, and drop off your collection in the office.

Amazon Smile Make your Amazon purchases through Amazon Smile to have a portion of the purchase price come back to the school. Sign up at smile.amazon.com and chose Beacon Academy (Maple Grove, MN) as the charity.

ShoparooDownload the free app Shoparoo (available for Android and iPhone). Shoparoo turns images of your receipts into cash for Beacon Academy! It's quick and convenient; all you have to do is snap a picture of your receipts. Receipts from stores that sell grocery items are turned into cash for the school, and receipts from other types of stores are entered into a monthly sweepstakes to win $1000, and a yearly sweepstakes to win $15,000.  Download the app, select Beacon Academy, and you are ready to go. You can submit receipts anonymously or be listed on the leader board.

Coke My Coke Rewards: save your caps and tear off the codes from all participating Coke products and turn them into the school. The school can redeem the points for items in their catalog.
