Assistant Principal

Beacon Academy is seeking a well-qualified Assistant Principal for the 2017-2018 School Year
JOB GOAL:
The Assistant Principal is a key member of the school’s leadership team assisting in the overall operation of the organization and responsible for leading the elementary classroom instruction initiatives. The Assistant Principal is responsible for half of the behavior management and staff supervision. Furthermore, the Assistant Principal is responsible for the general operation of the elementary team, and is expected to team with and report to the Principal in order to support teaching and enhance student learning.

QUALIFICATIONS:
a. Education consistent with the requirements of the State of Minnesota for licensure as an K-12 Principal. Three years of experience in the education field. Must have effective communication skills.

REPORTS TO:
The Assistant Principal will be directly reporting to the Principal.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Culture of Achievement and Respect
• Work with the school leadership team to implement the vision and mission of the school
• Assist in creating a positive school culture with the staff, students, parents, and community that focuses on positive character development and high student achievement.
• Ensure all staff members understand and follow policy and procedures to help the school operate efficiently and effectively
Behavior Management
• Understand, model, implement, and coach Responsive Classroom techniques when responding to student behavior
• Be responsible for about half of the office referral processing (the elementary students)
• Work in conjunction with the Resource Room Supervisor, Administrative Assistant, Principal, Dean of Students, and Enrollment Coordinator surrounding suspensions and/or expulsions
Staff Oversight
• Cooperatively work with the elementary team during team meetings
• Observe and provide instructional feedback in conjunction with the Q-comp Coordinator to the elementary team
• Support the breakfast and lunch program and oversee the lunchroom staff
• Support the elementary team’s student, curriculum, and programming needs
Academic Probation
• Work in conjunction with the Child Study Team and the Resource Room Supervisor pertaining to interventions and student support
Hiring and Firing
• Team with the Principal, Dean of Students, and HR Coordinator during the hiring and termination processes
Transportation
• Supervise students during bus drop off and departure times
• Work with the office and Principal to ensure student safety and transportation needs are being met
• Work with the Administrative Assistant, Principal, Special Education Coordinator, and our two bus company’s administration to oversee all of Beacon’s transportation needs
Lunch Supervision
• Supervise assigned lunchroom periods
• Work with the Lunchroom Supervisor and Principal to help provide a breakfast and lunch program
Professional Development
• Work as a team with the professional development committee
• Utilizing staff feedback, design and implement timely and pertinent monthly/weekly staff development sessions
• Manage the school’s professional development budget by monitoring supplies, workshop speakers, and the allocation of off-site workshops for staff
Assessments
• Support the needs of the Q-comp Coordinator’s assessment planning and implementation
• Support the Q-comp Coordinator’s assessment analysis
Assemblies (monthly assemblies/bi-monthly check ins)
• Organize and lead the students and staff through assemblies on a monthly basis
• Communicate with all the community, or portions of, pertaining to assembly topics
• Communicate with each month’s assigned grade levels pertaining to character education traits and plan accordingly
• Stay in touch with the IT coordinator, Administrative Assistant, PTO, and Admin Team about agenda items
Technology
• Be the administrative representative on the School Board’s Technology Committee – attend monthly meetings
• Directly supervise the IT administrator
• Support the committee’s initiatives and assist in aligning their budget with the finance committee’s allocation
• Help with the alignment and implementation of technology into the classrooms and support the infusion of technology into the curriculum
Policy/Governance
• Be the administrative representative on the School Board’s Governance Committee – attend monthly meetings
• Support the committee’s initiatives and assist in aligning school policy with the school’s vision and mission
• Help with the alignment and implementation of policy into the school’s daily operations
Master Scheduling
• Align the needs and the resources of the school with appropriate student contact time in order to accomplish the school’s academic goals
• Support the needs of many stakeholders and balance their needs with the overarching goals of our curriculum and programs
Title I Oversight
• Work with the Title I teacher to create a system of support targeted at students who are identified through district testing and teacher recommendations
• Complete the Title I state report
Paraprofessional Supervision
• Coach elementary paraprofessionals through 3-4 scheduled one-on-one coaching meetings
• Work with the Special Education Coordinator and Principal in order to hire and create proper programing for supporting our students with special needs
• Directly supervise the Resource Room Supervisor
Other job related duties as assigned.

NOTE : Some lifting and carrying of materials may be required, typically less than 40 lbs.

• Demonstrated the ability to maintain confidentiality.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

The Building/Facilities Supervisor is responsible for maintaining the facility, by keeping the property clean and in orderly condition on a daily basis, under the direction of Administration.

Major responsibilities are:

 Maintain cleanliness of outdoor spaces included sidewalks, building exterior, windows, trash/recycling receptacles, playground, etc.
 Maintain cleanliness of shared student spaces, included cafeteria, restrooms, hallways, and gymnasium
 Maintain cleanliness of shared staff spaces, included conference rooms, employee work rooms, etc.
 As assigned, perform cleaning duties in individual classrooms and offices
 Buff/wax floors as needed
 Clean internal and external windows
 Set up and take down for events
 Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications
 2 or more years of cleaning/maintenance experience
 Self-motivated and able to work effectively and efficiently without direct supervision
 Ability to follow detailed written and/or verbal instruction
 Ability to communicate and work effectively as part of a team
 Ability to make appropriate judgement calls and strong problem-solving skills
 Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
 Regular, prompt attendance
 HVAC experience preferred
