Job Description & Responsibilities

 

General Financial and Accounting:

  • Develop and maintain the financial records of the school within the framework of UFARS and GAAP
  • Communicate with the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) as needed per the State’s financial reporting requirements
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and the YTD budget vs. actual reports for the Board of Directors and the Management
  • Prepare monthly Treasurer's Reports including detailed disbursement and journal entry reports
  • Attend regular monthly Board/Finance Committee meetings if requested
  • Meet weekly with Executive Director
  • Oversee and maintain monthly bank reconciliations for all bank accounts
  • Prepare and manage the cash flow projections & modeling
  • Assist Management and the Board on the budget preparations
  • Assist Management on investment management
  • Track and manage grants revenues & expenditures and prepare periodic statements as needed for state and federal reporting
  • Prepare year-end State Aids receivables
  • Track and Manage the General Fixed Assets Account Group (GFAAG) in accordance with GASB accounting rules
  • Prepare year-end accruals and schedules for the audit
  • Complete the school’s year-end books closing
  • Upload the school’s year-end financial data to MDE’s system
  • Prepare TAL (IRS Form 990 tax return)
  • Support Transportation Coordinator with end-of-year transportation reporting and mileage allocations
  • Review school MARSS ADM reports

 

Accounts Payable/Disbursements

  • Develop and maintain the school’s vendor listing on SmartFinance
  • Process approved invoices on a weekly basis
  • Coordinate processing and payment of accounts payables checks on a weekly basis
  • Maintain accounts payable records required for annual audit
  • Coordinate payroll coding, voucher processing, recording
  • Support Human Resources Coordinator/Staff with TRA/PERA reporting
  • Maintain strong Internal Controls process and procedures to ensure adequate Segregation of Duties

 

Assist our Special Education Team with EDRS/SERVS/SPED

  • Prepare and record Special Education expenditures and Federal expenditures to the State’s EDRS and SERVS systems
  • Load/maintain State/Federal Special Education budgets on EDRS, including 1:1 paras
  • Review tuition billing reports
  • Support school's Special Education Coordinator/clerical staff
  • Balance forward all unused prior year SERVS funds, build supporting SERVS budgets for Title I and Title II
  • Support school leadership in accepting SERVS funded grants, and the grant application process on SERVS
  • Help coordinate Federal Special Education & Federal Title Expenditures with school personnel Maintain ADM enrollment projections on EDRS

 

Required Qualifications

Education, Training & Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree or higher in related field.

Experience with SmartFinance and Charter school law/accounting.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

    • Ability to maintain a positive and professional environment
    • Strong administrative skills
    • Computer competency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, e-mail and Internet
    • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Regular, prompt attendance is essential

  • Exceptional customer service skills, over the phone and in person with our families

American Sign Language (ASL) Teacher

American Sign Language (ASL) Teacher

Beacon Academy is seeking an American Sign Language (ASL) teacher at .25 FTE for the remainder of the 2017-2018 school year.  The ASL Teacher is in charge of maintaining and fulfilling student’s needs based on an Individual Education Plan.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:               

Education/Certification:

  • Current Minnesota Teaching License in American Sign Language (ASL).
  • Experience:
  • Experience in a licensed teaching position
  • QUALIFICATIONS:
  • The ability to address the learning styles of students.
  • The ability to plan instructional goals and designated outcomes for all students and to clearly communicate those to learners.
  • The ability to implement strategies, activities and techniques for promoting quality student performance in both academic and social behavior based on students' prior knowledge and experience.
  • The ability to adapt curriculum to meet the varying rates, patterns and needs of all students, including students who extend learning beyond designated outcomes.
  • The ability to effectively contribute to and manage an individual program plan for students with special needs.
  • The ability to assess learning outcomes achieved by students using various methods to monitor the effectiveness of teaching strategies. (e.g. testing, observation, self-evaluation, portfolios, alternative assessment, reflection).
  • The ability to plan and implement appropriate classroom management strategies and techniques to ensure productive, interesting, respectful and safe classrooms.
